Well, I don't think it's possible to get him to stop knocking your stuff around, unless you can catch him in the act. If you do, keep a squirt bottle handy and squirt him with water and shout "no!" As for the carpet phobia...if he doesn't have an allergy to the carpet, I would wonder if he had a traumatic experience you don't know about. Cats have exceptional associative memories. You could try gradually moving his food closer and closer to the evil carpet, and see if he can eat from the bowl without going in, then put one paw in, then so on...Other than that, spend as much time in your carpeted room as you ordinarily would, and maybe pick him up and put him on the couch or a chair in the carpeted room so he can visit you, and don't expect him to make his own way back, he'll feel betrayed, his anxiety will increase. This is an anxiety disorder rather than a behavior problem, but it's specific and not general so tranquilizers wouldn't help. You've just got to desensitize him without retraumatizing him. Don't remind him that he's on the carpet, you want him to forget he's on the carpet. Best of luck.

Your cat probly has very sensitive paw pads. The carpet might tickle her pads, or they might irritate them. Like she's allergic to the carpet fibers. Ask your vet if she could be allergic to the carpet, if they say yes, bring her in for a test. To see how sensitive her pads are.
It could also be something you're putting on your carpet that irritates her feet. Some of that odor eliminator carpet powder can actually kill pets. Ironic isn't it? It eliminates pet odors, and yet it can kill your pet..........THAT makes sense! lol
It could even be a past experience. Something could have happened when she was younger that made her afraid of the carpet. I was watching the Dog Whisperer once, and there was a dog that was afraid of tile floors. He slipped and fell, and was terrified of shiny surfaces since then. So if she's a rescue cat, find out what happened. If she was a stray, then it could have happened before she ran off/was dropped off. If you had her since a baby, then the only other explanation would be that something happened while you were gone.
You'll have to ask a vet, or animal behaviorist about what to do, or if there's anything else that could keep your cat off the carpet. Cats are also very finicky animals. If they don't like something, they avoid it at all costs. Or if they love something, they will die trying to get it!!

Seeing that my 2 cats love to totally shred and knead their claws into any carpet they come near, this dilema of yours is an interesting one...
Maybe he got a good static shock walking across the carpet(happens to us ALL) and is afraid to go back on it because of that...or something.
Cats tend to have their own ideas about things, so just don't make any big deal about the carpet or acknowledge he's on it when he 'forgets', and hopefully some day he'll get over his phobia.

Any cat i have ever seen loves carpet..So this sounds VERY odd.I agree with the other poster.Myae there is something deep down in the carpet burning his paws?
Some smell on the carpet he cant stand?
Whatever it is..I wouldn't force him to go back on it..
Just chill out and let him do his own thing!
I would check out the carpet though...
This just doesn't sound right,..,.

Put his food on the carpet and see if he eats there, is so keep it there for awhile. Also, carry him to the carpet and set him down. Don't be to forceful, but hold him their and pet him for a little while each day. Don't tease him about it either "toby your on the carpet", it'll only add to his fear.

Put him on the carpet and stroke him. He must have had a bad experience while on the carpet. If you make being on carpet pleasant to him, he may get over this idiosyncrasy.

Well, if you don't like him to be on the carpet and you just tell him to go away from there, he is gonna do that. But if you want him to go there again, take him and take it there with you, stay with him and caress him. Give him food in there also. Little tiny, while you are with him.
Good luck!
