My cheating husband sued me for divorce. He failed to appear at any hearings including the final hearing. All stipulations were signed by both of us that included satying married until the new year (so the diseased cheat could save on taxes) prior to the final hearing. My lawyer suggested I sue him because his absence might delay divorce. I did. It is the new year, am I divorced? Is there some document I have to sign?

no you are not divorced until you get a stamped ( Not a copy ) copy of the divorce papers, your lawyer is correct, sue him,, because he isnt going to the hearing, most divorces take 64 days

I would guess that you are not. YOu will get a final divorce decree.
If your lawyer did not tell you this, you should seriously consider firing him.
It is a new year, you will be divorced from the jerk soon enough, GOOD LUCK starting a new life without him!

I do not believe you are divorced yet. Yes, you need to sign the divorce papers.

Just like in any other county/country - when the 'Law of the Land' says you are.

Get the official paper from County/State/national-'Federal' official, and you're a free woman.

You are divorced when the court hands you papers stating such.
