An H1b is a nonimmigrant visa. You can only change to a green card if your employer petitions for you. Here is information you need to know:

What's with the 'slavery' answer, I wonder. Having any kind of job can be defined as 'slavery' by that nutcase.

Why would anyone want to be working on an indentured servant visa? It is ironic - America, land of the free, has a visa that turns you into a slave for a corporation.

This visa is "slavery light". The greencard is a carrot that you will most likely never attain on the H-1b. The only way to attain it is by becoming a slave to a company, and even then it is a crap shoot.

My advice is that you not subject yourself to such abuse.
