I have pain in my left knee pretty much all the time for the past month or so, but mostly when straightening it from a bent position. I'm a 42 yr old man.
This symptom is new. The Dr I saw last month said the pain over the patella was tendonitis; this is in a different area of the knee.
The first was more over the patella.

I injured it in the summer, mostly from getting in and out of a boat for work, and riding thru rough waves. It got worse so I saw the Dr recently, and he scheduled therapy starting next week.

I decdied to see him this Wed. to see what the new pain could be. This new pain is in a different area, more on the inner side of the knee, up high. It's not swollen.
Advil doesn't seem to change the pain, nor ice.

Any ideas? I'm wondering if they are related.
I'd like to have an idea of what the possibilities are before I see the Dr.

If anyone has a similar experience I'd like to know. Also how it was treated and their outcome.

Thanks!

I am sixteen years old. I too injured my knee, in April I went to a orthopaedic doctor and had an MRI. My patella had been knocked out of place when I got hit with a softball and was grinding the cartilage away from my outer knee. I had to have surgury in May to put it back in place. My suggestion would be to see an orthopaedic doctor ASAP so you will not do any more damage!

It sounds like classic wearing of the cartilage on the inner surface of the patella. This will cause pain under the patells esp. when standing up or climbing stairs. This is basically a wear and tear issue. On the other hand it could be a meniscus problem. The only way to know would be to have an MRI taken of the knee to rule out a meniscus tear, or tear of an intracapsular ligament. If everything checks out negative then resting the knee for a while would be good. A good way to strengthen the knee is to spin on a bike, keep the RPM about 80.

This pain seems like the start of Osteoarthritis or Osteoporosis, this is much more common in older people, but can emerge in younger people if they have had a single or reoccuring injury with that particular joint. Ask the doctor if you can get specialist orthopaedic tests and advice. Depending on the result, you may need a full or partial menisectomy. Having had a very similar experience with my left knee, having had continually injuries with my left knee after playing Rugby League.

U need to strengthen your knees , lift weights on ankles every other day.
Elevate legs at night or sleep in a sleeping bag to stop pain.
Put a magnet on knee from fridge, does wonders.
tie the magnet on the knee with sock or ace bandage.
when bending, relax neck and use knees when bending

Just so you know, tendonitis can spread. It could also be arthritis taking its form.
