There should be a space that says something along the lines of, "court appearance required" with a box that will be checked or marked if you have to go to court. Most cases, you do no need to go to court and can go to the municipal complex of the city that you got the ticket and pay it. Or you can call the number on the ticket and give them the ticket number and they will let you know. You can even do it online depending on what state you live in.

If that's the case my answer for you is to call the city/town court clerk office and ask them about the right court date or if you had missed it. They should be able to help you out. make sure to have your ticket handy for references. and if you missed due to their neglect then explain it to the judge. *The system might have missed placed you don't worry they will find everything. It takes a long time 3-4 months or so it depends on who's doing the paper work. you can't pay until the judge has give you a say in doing so.

Return to the traffic court and speak to the clerk you talked with before, if possible. Explain to clerk there has been a mistake, that you did appear, but was told not in the system. Take the ticket with you.
Is the address on your drivers license correct? If not, that is why this is such a mess. They have sent all documents to your old address. (It is your responsibility to keep your address current on your drivers license. It's the law in my state.)
Ask them to pull the warrant. If you get no satisfaction, ask to speak to the Judge and explain what happened. The only thing is to throw yourself on the mercy of the court.
By this time, you would have appeared twice, I feel sure they will help you with this. You are trying to get the error cleared up.
Good luck to you.

The copy of the ticket that the policeman that stop you gives you is your notice to go to court. You need to contact the court, because a warrant will be issued to arrest you for failure to appear.

You would not automatically receive a notice to appear. If you recieived a ticket with a court date then that is your notice. Call the clerks office to check

Call the courts and explain your circumstances to them, they are normally very flexible.
Also sounds a bit odd that you get a court date on a ticket as opposed to a chance to pay it or elect to go to court.
Anyway
