6:30, and it's already dark, and you're looking for something cheap for five people.
It's probably too late, but how about seeing the floats in Pasadena? They are still great to look at, even after the parade. Take the 210, exit Sierra Madre, follow the signs.
What part of LA? It's pretty huge out there. What sort of things do you like? There are plenty of theaters out there, how about a movie?
Downtown Disney is a fun place to shop, eat, and hang out, and it's free. So is Universal City Walk.

Go to LACMA. It's a HUGE museum complex in a big park. The La Brea Tar Pits is there, too and the kids love that. There are all kinds of cool restaurants around there, too. I live in South Orange County and it takes me about an hour to get there. I love it though and so do my kids (11 and 9 year old boys). s.
