then when you ask him again few a months later, he tells you she broke it off b/c basically she didnt want to be w/ him anymore, which of the two would you believe.that he broke it off or that she did & why would he lie about who broke it off???? btw, this is someone i'm dealing with.

He probably still felt bad that she dumped him and in order to make himself feel better and raise his confidence level when he didn't know you well, he said that he did it. But then once he got to know and trust you, he admitted the truth. But it depends on what the faults were, and lying is just plain wrong.

i think the latter would be the correct one. As the others said, he probably felt more secure to tell you the embarrassing truth after he trusted you more. Ask him about it in a nice way if it really bothers you...slip it into the conversation flawlessly than making it seem confronting as if you really mind.

it isn't really the best thing to tell a new girl "hey, my last gf broke up with me because I sucked at life". You know... Maybe he was trying to impress you? It was a stupid move to lie however, I'd call him out on it (but that's me and I make horrible decisions)
