My mom is looking to buy a new car. She wants it to be cheap, and either a hybrid or one that gets really good gas mileage. She wants the back to fold down easily so our dogs can hop in the back- she would really like a hatchback. She wants a manual transmission and she doesn't want to buy a new one- maybe like a 2005 or something. She really likes the Yaris but we want to shop around and try out other cars like it. Any ideas?

The Honda Fit is very nice, too. They're both best buys in the subcompact field.

Yaris only came out last year, didn't they? Others in same arena would be Nissan Versa and Honda Fit, but both are new for 2007.

If you want 2005 you'll have to go for something like a Suzuki or Kia or Hyundai.
