it doesn't sound like he is interested and if he is, he shouldn't be acting like that in front of his friends. he may just like the attention. find someonelse to talk to and make him feel like an @$%

The guy says he likes you but, in actuality he probably only said that so your feelings wouldn't get hurt. The age different probably has nothing to do with it but he's using it as an excuse not to talk to you.He fronts in front of his friends to make it seem as though he's got all these younger girls after him.It's almost a way of him boosting his ego.The best advice I can give to you would be to just forget about him because he seems to be a waste of time and effort.

Keep making him like you don't stop liking him because he'll stop liking you. If he keeps fronting in front of his friends then maybe he doesn't want them to know that he likes you because they'll make fun of him for liking or even dating a girl 2 years younger. But if he really cared then he would get his act together and say that he really likes you or maybe get it over with and say that he just wants to be friends. But as long as you 2 are still friends then it's gonna be okay..trust me.
