I have had cats all my life and have not found a good solution to this either. The only thing I have seen that works is to squirt them with the hose if you happen to be outside, but of course they are going to want to get on it when you are not there, so the hose method is not very effective either. My cats like to sit on the car because it is warm. I have tried honking and starting the car too, but these are only temporary solutions too. They will still get back on it when you're not looking. If your concern is you don't want their little feet prints on your car, perhaps you should get a car cover. That's the only thing I've ever been able to come up with.

There's not really a good way of keeping a cat off of anything, sorry to say. The best you can do is to protect your car with a tarp or one of those elasticized car covers.

Black Pepper is the best. We have a show truck & sometimes just hate messing with the cover so when we are putting black pepper on our other vehicles, we put it on the truck. It won't hurt the finish, blows off when you drive or haul it and won't hurt the cats. It works so well that our neighbors also use it and now none of us have any problems with cats getting on any vehicles.

Cover your car with something. Put a rug protector upside down on the car so the spikes are pointing up. It won't hurt them and they hate it.
