monsters for securty. Why dose the law not focus on the underlying cause of the problem? Which is drugs and gangs.

People are missing the point. These are outlaws that are using these dogs and make them dangerous. Do you thinks they will worry if the breed is been banned. And when you kill al of the pits off what breed will they next use and people will want to ban. If we do not stop bls now, we could lose the right toown large breed dogs. How big is the breed you love, could it be next, well you be saying its not my breed thtas bad it those who misuse them that are.

Because then they would actually have to spend money on the problem. I don't know really and it angers me as a responsible pet owner and dog trainer (I have pitbulls and have for years). Frankly if they would just spend money on enforcing our existing dog laws such as leash laws, licensing etc it would cut down on alot of the problems. But in my town they cut the animal control budget and completely eliminated any funding for investigating, enforcement and prosecution. They just seize, fine and euthanize and it doesn't do any good. They need to crack down on the criminals and the existing laws.
My dogs are licensed, microchipped, have id tags and collars. I leash them in public and on my property I have a 6 foot fence. They are all socialized, obedience trained, and AKC Good Citizens. I've also trained pitbulls in Agility, FlyBall, obedience and therapy work. And yet even as a responsible pitbull owner I have to worry about some idiot who wants to do away with my dog because of these criminals.

Trust me the law know about the illegal drug biz, however you must remember we live in a society of greed and profit. So many things that are not being addressed ,is because it will affect someones money. When it comes to drugs and profit we have some people that may be very high in authority who are reaping the benefits of drug sales. So what I would like to suggest is do what I do, I report any problems of breeding, dog fighting and drugs sales to the proper authorities Sometimes as individuals we have to take a stand. Many of the dogs are either killed themselves or killing other dogs for practice. As a animal lover and a person of principle ,sometimes we have to at least protect the dogs. This report has been know to lead to the discovery of the other illegal activities going on ,as result some will be addressed., We need more then the law, we need people to quit hiding and report what they see. We do not have enough police willing or able to take care of this problem alone. Sometimes all it takes is a simple phone call. When you start taking action you will quit wondering.

I don't know the answer but I agree with you. The people who are using these pits should be banned, put to sleep and made extinct, not the pit bulls. Any large animal can be turned into a monster with cruelty & mistreatment. The people are responsible, not the dogs!

You need to read at least one more book to understand the situation. That is the Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs. It explains how the drug and gang problems got started. You can find it at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm
If you haven't read this book, then you don't know the subject.

It is common for gangs to do it use pit bulls for protection because of their vicious propensities and yes the law knows about it and in some cities they have banned that breed from being within the city limits.

l think the law is aware of this. and most of these dogs are put to sleep when the owner is jailed. what a bad way to have a pet that is mean then be put to sleep.Gangs and drugs will be a on going problem and the law is doing their best.

The "law" knows this, but is helpless with too many criminals and too few enforcement officers.
And they are too busy putting people who smoke a little weed in private in jail.
