Change your habits immediately. Rearrange your furniture, all of it, even if it doesn't suit the room very well. The idea is to set a whole new set of behaviors that is as distant from your old habits as possible. Give everything a really deep cleaning to reduce the smoke order. Refocus the rooms, and avoid your favorite smoking chair, even after moving it to the garage. Take up knitting, embroidery, or anything that will keep your hands busy. If you used to smoke driving, drive a different car for awhile, or at the very least, change your routes. You'll see new territory and get yourself away from your usual habits. Avoid people who smoke for a few months. Your ability to resist will increase, but don't set yourself up for failure too quick.

You can do it. And it's worth it, even if (like my father) you've been smoking for over 50 years.

Hi,
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way this time last year!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can't say fairer than that

All the best..

Take it 15 minutes at a time. Tell yourself "I will wait 15 min to see how I feel." When it is up... say it again. Then move to 30 minutes and so on....

I quit in April, and so far have not smoked even 1 cigarette! It paid for a new floor in my house!

congrats, and just be strong and think how nice it will be in a month or two, when those urges wont be bothering you so much. I quit too, after smoking for a long time. It does get easier, and soon you will be so happy, when you havent smoked for a long time. Keep it up, and dont let yourself falter! I ate sunflower seeds till I was o.k., they seemed to help

a majority of quitting smoking is alll in your mind. Try keeping your mind on other things. Pick up a book and read it whenever you feel the craving. or you can do other things, like doing puzzles, or playing a video game, or cleaning your house or whatever. Just try not to focus on that old dirty habit..good luck.

I don't know from experience, but my mom quit without the patch or anything like that. She sucked on cinnamon candy and chewed cinnamon gum. You should also start a hobby that occupies you hands and get your mind off it. Over time you'll get over it.

I'm a nurse. Try the patch and get someone to stop smoking with you for motivation. Also ask the people around you for help, it works.

i will scare you with this story.
my grandma used to smoke alot. (she lives alone)
one day you know what happened?!?
she stopped breathing and collapesed.
we got her to the hospital and they had to put needles in her.
after a year or so she smoked less but still did.
and that day she was alone in the house,
a normal day when, she started to bleed. (and fell and colapesed
again) (and could not breath)
SO THERE!

cinnamon will help curb the urges. I used big red and it helped a ton. Also, keep active... the first few weeks/month are hard when you don't have anything to do... so clean the house.... lift weights.... write.
