Yes air force 1 has come to be defined as whatever plane the president is on, In addition to those 2 747s, there is a DC-9 with the same paint job that is used when landing at smaller airports. the original air force 1 was a 707 with paint designed by Raymond Lowey. The original concept was a special airplane for the president, unfortunately there are so many people who want to kill the President this turned out to be a dumb idea, It advertises that this is the plane the president is on, so a terrorist with a stinger anti aircraft missile knows which plane to shoot at. The real number of air force 1s is secret. We can be almost certain that W flys in a different plane while his double flys in the big plane. W was a pilot in the national guard. He could be flying an F-16 that is escorting the 747.

Air Force One is the air traffic control call sign of any U.S. Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. Since 1990, the presidential fleet has consisted of two specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft—tail numbers 28000 and 29000—with Air Force designation VC-25A. While these planes are referred to as "Air Force One" only while the president is on board, the term is commonly used to describe either of the two aircraft normally used and maintained by the U.S. Air Force solely for the president.

The VC-25A is capable of flying 12 600 km (7,800 miles)—roughly one-third the distance around the world—without refueling and can accommodate more than 70 passengers. Before these planes entered service, two Boeing 707-320B-type aircraft—tail numbers 26000 and 27000—had operated as Air Force One starting in 1962. The Air Force designation for these aircraft was VC-137. Since its inception, Air Force One has become a symbol of presidential power and prestige. Each VC-25A costs approximately US$325 million.

Their are multiple planes with the 'Air Force One' paint scheme. However, Air Force One is nothing more than the designation given to ANY plane carrying the President. Which means that if the President flies commercial, that jet is designated Air Force One for as long as the POTUS (President of the United States) is on board.

There are several Air Force One aircraft. Fact is that ANY aircraft operated by the USAF is Air Force One if the president is on board. Same with USMC aircraft - those helicopters are Marine One when the president is on board.
