Three kids from Bristol went for a walk. About a mile into the walk, they came to a deep, wide river. There was no bridge. They didn't have a boat or raft, or any materials to make one. None of them could swim.
How did they cross the river?

The river was frozen, so they walked across.

There is a contradiction here. You said the kids are from Bristol, yet there is no bridge over the river. England is a highly civilized country, so they can walk along the river in either direction and find a bridge.

Could have taken the Bristol Ferry

Either they walked around until they found dry land or they called a chopper to fly them over the river.
