I have tried several different wines but I don't like the tartness or the bitterness that some have and some are just too dry. Sangria is pretty good, I like the sweetness...but I want to explore. I am new to drinking wine, any tips or suggestions?

Why don't you try some of the sweeter whites? They're a good intro into the world of wine and far better than the wine flavored soda pops like Boones Farm, etc. Sangria which is a refreshing drink, is a mix of fruit juices and wine and isn't a bad stepping stone.

Reislings are usually pretty sweet and have hints of fresh fruit flavors like apple or pear. Gewurtraminer is another pleasant, sweet, fruity and a little spicey white that appeals to new and experienced wine drinkers alike. Both are often thought of as picnic wines, because they pair so well with typical picnic foods like cheese, roast chicken, ham, sausages, fruit etc. Several California wineries produce these at very reasonable prices since they aren't as trendy as other wines.

The Spanish drink red wine mixed with coke sometimes. Pretty similar to sangria I guess but different!!! Also try white wine mixed with lemonade . You can buy the driest white and the lemonade (even Diet ones) make it drinkable if you've got a sweet tooth. ps Update if you ever try the red wine/cola mixture!!!

You might want to start exploring sweet wines.

Ask your wine shop clerk for Bully Hill Vineyards' Sweet Walter to start with, try that one. It's inexpensive, and easy to drink.

A knowledgeable wine shop employee should be able to point you in the direction of similar wines.

Our band and orchestra builders used to do a chili supper. You got chili, crackers, drink and dessert. The local churches do fish fries, so do the baseball teams. The Mason's and one church do a roast beef supper, several charities do pancake breakfasts. Our church did salad luncheons, the desserts and most of the salads were donated, the church bought some of the salads, and the drinks. And the Greek orthodox Catholic church does a greek fest. Entertainment, and greek food, adn greek crafts.. They really advertise, and the whole world goes there to eat. Most of them took the opportunity to have a craft bazaar and raffles during the event. One local church had a meal, asked for donations from local businesses, and raffled off decorated Xmas trees, of all sizes and themes. The reward for the businesses was a big sign in front of the tree with their name, and the names were in the brochures, and on advertising. If memory serves, there were seven trees, and you had to pick which one you wanted to win, or buy tickets for all seven. I think they had a turkey dinner, and they had a craft bazaar, too. Some of the trees were a little, well, bare, but it was a charity event. Hope this helps.

I love strawberry wines...by Vineyards or by Arbour Mist. A great way to find out what you like and what to look for is to visit wineries. Some are free for the tasting and some are really cheap. It also makes for a fun outing!
