You really have answered your own question, not only is she possessive but jealous as well. Most dogs get jealous when a new dog comes in the home, especially if she has been the only dog in the house for a long time. What I have learned is that you have to work with them for awhile maybe even up to a week or two. I have always had 4 dogs, whenever I bring a new dog home the rest are highly upset. So i work with them and protect the newcomer, sometimes this may mean some separation when you are busy or at work. They will come around when they first realize that you are the master and what you say goes. Also, when they feel that you are giving them as much time as the other pet. When I worked I would bring the new dog home on the weekend and maybe take one or two days off. Usually by the time 3 or 4 days have went by they begin to settle down. However I have to use separation measures for a while longer, while I am out. As result my 4 dogs get along great now, because of this. I have 2 medium size dogs and 2 very small dogs: today they are more like family. Believe me when I tell you every one of them was like this for the most part.

Your Lab is showing her place is #1 in the house. Known as ALFA Dog. It's really not a big deal, as this is what's done in the wild. I would keep the pup crated while your out so he can not only feel safe, but be safe in case something were to happen.
Even though your St. Bernard will be MUCH bigger, they are babies at heart (most extra large dogs are). Labs are a more excitable breed, and I would expect the Lab to be the alfa in the house.

First question you should have asked is " are they two different dogs going to get along before bringing home #2" I'd growl too, dogs are VERY territorial for starters. You have your work cut out for you now, so roll up a news paper and step #1 short and stern, say NO what ever the dogs name is If this doesn't work, repeat step # 1 again showing you have your newspaper in hand, step # three, NO... name and a smack to the butt, not the face ever!!!! Your dog is now going to think it's name is NO. Keep the sentence short, OK .. name, NO, and if that doesn't work , a smack to the butt!!! And do not forget the new puppy is getting all of the attention, how would you feel??? Give lots of love to both when they are good dogs tell them so, showing love works wonders

The Lab is establishing the pecking order. The St Bernard is not scared as much as he is respectful. Usually in wild dogs such as wolves the female is the boss over the dominant Male. They will get over this and soon the lab will figure out that the Saint is alot bigger than she is and they will be fine together. The saint may never assert himself enough to make her feel he is boss as she has shown the dominance early, but they will get along.

There is Alfa and Omega. Sounds like the Lab is just showing who exactly is first in you home. (Alfa) Even though the St. Bernard will get bigger in size, looks as though he will be the Omega in this case. Completely natural. However, I'd keep them separated while your away. being the omega is still a puppy, the alfa may hurt him if things turn sour.

your lab is the alpha dog of the house.
im guessing your saint is around 80 pounds or so (mine was 101 at 6 months but hes a monster) but just because he/she is big it is still a puppy, and the other dog knows this (dogs can tell age of each other) and the lab is just showing the bernard that she is boss of the house.
so dont worry, she will come around once the saint gets a bit older.
i love saints!!!

Because he is a puppy and therefore due to nothing more than pack order.. he is showing respect for his elders..
But
Bar the doors hannah when the St Benard matures.. things could change
But
On the other hand.. grown up guy dogs often let the females boss them around.... "because"...
HAVE A GREAT YEAR

organic bred would not propose properly bred, some runts of the muddle do merely no longer attain finished boost . There are some lines that have shorter legs and are stockier, some are longer legged and leaner. Many outdoor breeders do no longer breed to the conventional, they do no longer examine what stud could paintings with a definite woman, usually putting mutually 2 canine that don't do properly while they produce, the doggies have all their faults and then some.
