I have a sheltie female who has been due in season/heat for about 2 months (so she is late) and recently had a urinary tract infection. we started her on antibiotics 2 days ago and today I had her on the table to get a urine sample, while I was feeling for her bladder, I felt 2 lumps about the size of walnuts.
First thought was stool, but I did a rectal and she was empty, second thought was bladder stone, but it was too big for her bladder, Third thought was that she had a silent heat and was bred by my stud male and these are puppies.
I need to know if I should get an x-ray, an ultrasound, or a pregnancy test, cause if the pregnancy test is negative I still don't know what it is, but If i get an ultrasound or x-ray, will the vet be able to tell if its a puppy or something else? Which test should I get, I can't get all of them, I'm a college student not made of money and please don't give me any stupid answers about how I shouldn't own dogs, I care for my dogs, I'm just not rich.

I'm a certified veterinary technician, behaviorist, obediance trainer and owner show handler! DO NOT TELL ME TO SPAY MY DOGS. I breed them for show and competition purposes! I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! Just because I don't have a million dollars doesn't mean I can't care for my animals. Vet care is expensive, so please don't answer my question rudely just to get points. I have a serious question. Thank you to those of you who have been kind. Your answers are appreciated.

Personally, I would go with an abdominal ultrasound. This way you'll know whether you have puppies or something more serious.

Also, make sure you find a veterinarian that specializes in ultrasounds. The quality of the work/out-some is significantly better in the case of non-puppy problems.

Another question that may sound silly, are the lumps in relation to her mammary chain? Some mammary tumors can appear and grow very rapidly.

best of luck!

If you have a dog and you are poor then maybe you should find it a good home, l am so sorry for the pets some people have then say they can afford a vet bill. l am not all that rich either but l take care of my pets. l just had a vet who was kind enough to let me pay by the month. So please if any one out there want a pet, take care of it like it was a child . you would not take your child to the doctor because you are poor. Or am l wrong. take your pet to the vet.

Take her to the vet and have them palpate her and see if they can tell. All these tests have to be preformed at certain times, you are probably WAAAYY to early for x-ray. The best course is to ask the vet and have them tell you, according to your dates, what the best thing would be.

I would do the ultrasound. i feel like it would be more diagnostic, and usually, not always, but usually people doing ultrasounds are more trained in interpretation...a lot of vets and vet techs snap xrays and see the same lumps you feel...an ultrasound tech/vet who is trained will know what s/he is looking at.

That's NOT "too big" for bladder stones!!!
I saw an X-ray of a yorkie that had a stone bigger than a HEN'S egg!!
Do radiograph FIRST!

But if it already HAD bladder infection, that's probably ***WHY**!!!

You DO know better than to breed a "stone-dawg",right?

Why are you breeding if you can't take your pets to the vet. What hapens if there is an emergency and you don't have the money to get the pups to the vet. You are willing to risk the lives of puppies and the mother just for your interest?

GET THEM FIXED! TAKE THEM TO THE VET!

Ask the vet what tests they feel are necessary.
