He is increasingly worried about the safety of their children.

She, of course, thinks she is acting and behaving in a rational manner, and has so far refused to see any kind of specialist.

If you're in the UK he should talk to her GP. He can make a referral to a specialist. If she refuses to go involve social services; he should ask for an assessment by an Approved Social Worker.
Hospitalisation isn't common nowadays as it's counterproductive for most people. She may receive medication and or support from a Community Psychiatric Nurse.

OK this is what a friend of my parents did. He asked his wife to go to a counselor with him so he could be a better husband or whatever. During the session it was obvious to the counselor that the wife wasn't healthy and he told her so. It shocked her enough that she agreed to therapy on a long term basis. If she hadn't agreed the doctor was willing to help her husband have her committed against her will because he thought she might be a danger to herself or others. They're much happier now and she doesn't blame him in the least because she understand that it was what he had to do. I don't know if that will work in your situation but it might be worth a shot.

I agree with other answers, ACT NOW. tell her how very concerned you are so she doesn't feel attacked, and don't give up until she agrees to be reviewed by a specialist. Keep someone there as second watch on the precious children, they are the ones that really need you to act like a grown up.
If it all blows over it will be a funny anecdote to tell the grankids, if it is real you may not get grandkids.......

sorry, I think he should tell GP about her actions regarding the children,& describe anything that she has done to her GP. Also his worries regarding the childrens safety. He should ask her nicely as it might really hurt her feelings too.

If any of you are honestly concerned about the safety of the children, what are you doing asking a Yahoo Questions and Answers group? You need to have that woman seen to - immediately - and if she refuses to go, her husband can consult a doctor who will see that she is involuntarily committed for observation.

Go.

Go NOW.

This is the stuff tragedies are made of.

the only thing he can do is get her to the docs and take it from there, or as a last resort he could have her commited, she wont love him for it but she will get the help she needs. good luck with that one.

she should seek medical attention right away b/c it will probably only get worse and its not good for the children(or husband). also reassure her that there is nothing to be ashamed of and there is medication to help any one these days. it happens to the best of us!

He needs to get a court order to be her gaurdian then he can admit her to the mental ward. You can't just send someone away if they are over 18. She unfortunatly needs to do something crazy first.

Maybe he is unstable, because all of this is in his mind and not hers.
She just needs a pms pill now and then, he needs to get a grip and help her out with the kids.
