Your dog is very cute. Please take him to the vet asap, as this occurred with my dog and I waited much too long. As result it continued to grow and the surgery was hard on my pet. Thank god they removed it and it was a tumor. I will tell you as the parent of 4 dogs now and many more in the past, what I found is that something like this should be treated immediately.

It's hard to tell from a photo, but it could be any number of things. It could be from allergies as mentioned before, but it looks a little too red and irritated. It almost looks more like an open wound or an abrasion. It could be a hot spot, but still looks a little too irritated for that. It could be a fungus, could be a parasite. He might be doing it to himself out of boredom, nervousness, separation anxiety, etc... Really the list goes on as to what might have caused it. If you really want to know what it is, I suggest getting a vet to look at it. If they're reoccurring, I'd be especially concerned about knowing for sure what they are.

It's good that you're so concerned about your baby's health. I am glad that you are calling you vet tomorrow, but instead of calling, just go in and have the vet look at him; that way you won't have to wait and worry until the time of the appointment.

It could be a bee sting. I had this happen once. It's not likely a tumor so rest easy! Your vet will take care of things.

It sounds like some sort of growth that only your vet can determine what it is. Good luck and hope everything is okay!
