you gain from every ounce you eat but eating half of a salad won't make you "fat" if thats what you're asking. eat as many vegetables as you want, you might weigh more if you step on a scale immediately but just because the food is in your stomach doesnt mean it automatically goes right to your hips.
donuts on the other hand, are a different story ;]

Why don't you change your name to "Anne Norexic" ? If you ate half of a 500-calorie meal, that's 250 calories. Considering the basic metabolic needs of a standard human being are 1200-1500 calories per day (I'll assume you're nearer 1200), I would suspect 250 isn't too big of a problem.
Would I be correct in saying you under-eat? Ask three people who know you and notice when, what and how much you're eating, to find out the real answer.
Tell you what, go back to Friday's (hopefully on somebody else's money), get their Bourbon Street Cheeseburger with your favorite fixings, fries, a grilled chicken salad (with blue cheese or ranch dressing... no, BOTH), take advantage of their frequent specials on Long Island Ice Tea (the Mondo is only $1.00 more), have a couple of those, then get some dessert. Matter of fact, I think they only have three items on their dessert tray that don't involve chocolate (I hate caffeine). Get 'em all.
And don't stop until you've downed every bite. If you want to gain weight, that should do the trick (but don't forget to eat a couple hours later). I'd call that a reasonable snack. Did I mention my name is Gluttony?
While you chew, if you listen very carefully, you'll hear me chearing you on. "Eat-it-all! Eat-it-all! Eat-it-all!" Just pretend you're Rocky, and go the distance... to the buffet, over and over again.

No. Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

It sounds like you have bigger issues to worry about than half of a salad making you gain weight. I don't know your situation, but your nickname seems to indicate that you are, or want to be a model, and your question leads us to believe you do not want to gain weight. You may have an eating disorder, or a pyschological problem, you may want to seek professional help.

One pound is 3500 calories, so no you will not gain weight. The fact that you are so concerned about eating a 500 calorie salad is what concerns me.

I'm a nurse. It's not the amount sometimes it's the food itself. You should avoid foods that you don't prepare yourself. Eat right and exercise is the key, you can do it.

I don't think so because you burn a lot of calories just by sitting around (metabolism) and 500 calories is ok it's just a meal.
