Then God said, "Let us make humankindc in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth,d and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth."

God had help creating mankind? And what does God mean by "our image" and "our likeness"? Hmmmm?

God was speaking of our as the male/female duality which is the nature of All That Is. Humankind in OUR image is that of male and female. That's my interpretation anyway!

That was the first reference of the "Trinity".The word used for God there was 'Eloheim' which is a plural used as a singular. It was The Father,Son, and Holy Spirit conversing.Collosians 1 says "All things were created by God through Jesus".
John 1 says "In the beginning was the Word(Jesus) and the Word was with God and the Word was God...all things were made by Him.He came unto His own but His own knew Him not".
Genesis 1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth, and the Spirit of God hovered over the earth.
So see all 3 of them were there at creation.
it's like 1x1x1=1 God ,as opposed to 1+1+1=3 separate God's.
We were created in God's spiritual likeness until Adam sinned.

There is God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit all three were involved in the creation process. Many people think that Jesus first came into being when He was a babe in Bethlehem. But Christ has been around since Genesis. So that is who God the Father is speaking too.

Referring to the spirit creature who became the perfect man Jesus, the apostle Paul said: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and upon the earth.” (Colossians 1:15, 16) Yes, it seems logical that at Genesis 1:26, God was speaking to his only-begotten Son, the “master worker,” who was at his side during the creation of the heavens and the earth.

If you were a Jew living in the period and culture this book was written you would know your answer.

In early Jewish theology, they believed that the plural form expresses the perfection of God. So they are using a literary tool so that the reader can better understand the majesty of God.

He is talking to Jesus. In the New Testament, in John and Hebrews, you discover that Jesus is the agent through whom the world was created.

There are three aspects to God. Yahweh or God the father, is one aspect, Jesus, the son, is another, and the third is the holy spirit.

God is a plural being - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is talking to himself in the royal "we" sense of the word.

God in the Hebrew text is plural; in effect two or more. Who else was there is speculation. Could it(we, our) include Jesus and/or the Holy Ghost? Yes.
