Redneck, in modern usage, usually refers to a particular stereotype of people who may be found in many regions of the United States or Canada. This stereotype is now widespread in other states and the Canadian provinces. The word can be used either as a pejorative or as a matter of pride, depending on context.
Usage of the term redneck generally differs from hick and hillbilly, because they reject or resist going into the dominant culture, while hicks and hillbillies are different from the dominant culture. In this way, the term redneck is similar to the word cracker.
An example of some "rednecks" are the Dukes of Hazzard. A comedian that talks about them is Jeff Foxworthy. If you google him, his favourite quote "You might be a redneck if," is one of his best statements.

A red neck is a really country person who lives in a rural area and seems to live in poverty. It is usually a derogative term to describe a trashy person. A redneck is commonly believed to use a lot of duct tape, and to rig things up in makeshift circumstances. Good Question, and I hope my answer helps!

Check out Jeff Foxworthy. He is a comedian who's big claim to fame is a schtick "you might be a redneck if......" . You can probably find him at your local Blockbuster, on the web, and on the comedy channel's Blue Collar Comedy.
It not only will explain *redneck* better than I ever could, but it is also hilarious - especially if you have ever known any rednecks.

Its a derogatory (bad) term for poor sourthern white folks. The term comes from the color of the back of a white man's neck after working out in the southern sun all day in a field
