I have come to realise something here whilst i read Q&As. I believe as a christian in tolerating other peoples religions. To me, it looks like some of you dont. If i mention Judaism, everyone is all smiles and thinks happy thoughts. However, when i mention Islam, everyone turns those smiles into anger. Do you people not realise that the biased media have made you think what they want. Why does Sky news show us one sided views whilst other channels like Al jazeera show us another. You need to look at both sides cos you otherwise get half the story.
I believe tolerance of all faiths is the way forward including atheism. Do you agree

its rants like this that give us the bad impressions. you should rant at the wrongdoers in your own faith and demand THEIR respect for your religion.

Some of the comments here are dissapointing. Sadly, negative remarks will not solve the problem. I have friends from all religions and I am tolerant to all faiths.

This has not hindered me from practiscing my own faith and I have the respect of others and they have my respect.

I dont call the politicians, the media honest in their reporting, I have seen the most biased reporting ever in the last couple of years even on the BBC which is upsetting,

I have worked alongside other faiths and as long as you dont impose your beliefs on others and vice versa your safe.

There are organisations such as the 'three faiths forum' in UK which represents the monosthetic religions and other such groups that do that are truly worthy of merit.

You just have to be open minded and you will find a common ground whoever your next to. After all 99% of our DNA is identical, we are more similar than we are different. It only depends on your attitude and sadly that is where some people go wrong...

Well I understand the fear of islam. The media would make Islam look good if they could. Do you not think the media wouldn't jump at the chance to make Christians look bad?

tolerance is a good thing to practice. We can accept the faiths of others, but when that faith kills people we also have a responsibility to point that out. However as I understand it true Islamic teachingd s forbid whae we saw on 911. Guess where I learned that? From the News media. That guy that charles Gibson replaced when he died.

Phae as continually thrilling questions... The Roman Catholic Church is the only real faith and all others are the two fake or misled. i'm bobbing up a area of interest so as that persons can thumb me down or up from merely the fact above. I stated that when i became sixteen whilst i became a student in London between Orthodox Christians, Muslims, and Agnostics. We have been on the three rd floor of the student dorm. i became virtually thrown out the window that night. I on no account stated that considering the fact that then. For I vowed on no account to think of in those words. at the instant i'm Buddhist, and that i make it a habit on no account to assert some thing like, MY Buddhism is extra helpful than others. there is no such subject. in an attempt to respond to your question, I define S & R tolerance as with the flexibility to settle for different religions as what they are. i attempt to prepare tolerance every day yet I nevertheless have self assurance in what I do. besides the undeniable fact that i do no longer say or think of that our faith is extra suitable to others what I do suitable now works for me. it is the very essence of 'concept' isn't it? I see it this style, each and each non secular entity (company) ought to guard a particular shape and a particular border. they are like products of a jigsaw puzzle. There are borders that have compatibility noticeably into yet another. the full puzzle constitutes the image. it relatively is what's smart. At that element we see the image and that we are ALL ONE. thank you for a large Q!!!!!

Yes I agree.
Here's an interesting quote that explains why it is important to promote it:
"A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. where such an attack occurs, the primary targets are it's religious and national gods and heroes,it's potential of leadership and the self respect and integrity of it's members.
If you look around you , you will find countless examples of these points. They scream at us every day from the newspapers and TV.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion.
The source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
Unfortunately these few rely on creating fear and insecurity in others
to forward and promote their enemy propaganda. These others feel correctly they have to defend themselves from an attack, but because the real enemy is hidden, they can be manipulated to attack what they really should be defending as they cannot see the real enemy.

The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind." L.Ron Hubbard

AS A HUMAN you need to learn to tolerate people's religions, not as a christian. :-)
we as humans, need to be a bit more understanding of the differences between us and other people and not be so damn naive and gullible by what is presented in the media. the media is biased and only presents stories of which it knows will get high ratings on tv and what not. why do you think they do so many stories on celebrities or child predators? it's because that what's in! it's a like f*cking trend or fad. it's what (most) american people want. do you think anyone payed attention when the president of turkmenistan died. nope. that's why i don't my news from the tv anymore. i go to the net and visit various sites to get all sides of the story. Christian Science Monitor is a pretty good site and i'm an atheist. lol. but it doesn't matter.

I do, I do, I do! Religious tolerance is so important - now more than ever. It is very surprising that thinking adults can be taken in so easily by propaganda, and not just on religious issues, but political issues as well.

We must remember there are 3 sides to every story (yours, mine and the truth) and there is good and bad in everything. No faith is full of good or bad people, and most people are just like you and me - trying to live our lives and raise our families in peace, safety and with lots of opportunities. I have spoken to muslims myself and know this to be fact. I don't know what is so hard to understand about that.

Peace!

PS - to fish:
Tolerance means accepting that others have a choice to make up their own mind as to what is true. It doesn't mean that we have to embrace or believe their choice - it simply means that others can decide for themselves with no adverse consequences. We all want the freedom to worship and live as we see fit - within the confines of society and socially accepted behavior (meaning no killing, etc.)

I believe that everyone has the right to walk their own spiritual path, so long as they don't harm others while doing so, and so long as they don't try to force people of other faiths to "live by their rules".

What you do and what you believe is totally up to you and is yours to do with as you want. When the way you follow your beliefs starts to affect others - either through violence, persecution, religious-based laws, etc. - then it's a different story.

I am a Christian but do not believe in religion, meaning religion is carnel(man made) and God said I will build my church(members) and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it,God is love that is His first commandment so why should we even refer to toleration

Tolerance means accepting all religions as truth and that is just not so. Our media is a lot kinder to Islam than they should be. Our President is a lot kinder because he falsely believes there is some good in Islam. I am not swayed by either. I have read the book and find their religion to be borrowed from Jews and Christians with hatred added.

I am the first to admit to religious intolerance - in thought only. I do not tolerate religious belief, in that I consider it all to be rubbish and logically uintenable. That said, I tolerate all people, regardless of how they think.
