Mary,

What a Good question! Some will say first off, "You shall Not Kill".

In the Hebrew there are 5 words for Kill. The one used in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 is the word correctly translated "You shall Not Take INNOCENT LIFE!"

So this verse is often taken out of Context by those Pacifists who would Not Execute A Convicted Murderer, such as Timothy McVey or Jeffery Dommer. The Deserved to DIE FOR their Crimes against Humanity.

History is often Repeated because we Fail To Lear from IT! The WW2 Trials for those Nazi's who did so many Despicable things during that war.

(Genesis 9:5-6) And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

(Gen 9:6) Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Every Legal system is based on Some Moral Code! In the middle east, one can loose his or hand for Stealing!

Yet here in America, there are so many that Steal that it is a Shame for a Nation that calls itself, "Christian?"

All Murderers should be EXECUTED, according to God's Law! Yet we allow them to Live on in prison. Our same law, allows "A Baby to be Killed in the Womb and has done so since 1973!" And yes, that was the same year that the Supreme Court said that Each State had to determine for itself About Murder! What a sad commentary on the state of our Nation!

I weep with our Founding Fathers and the Many INNOCENTS killed each year by Abortion! I live not far from where Teri Schiavo was Killed by the decision of a Judge here in Florida!

Thanks for your time and consideration. RR

Its Matthew 26:52, but i don't think this verse has anything to do with the death penalty. This was said to the crowd that was arresting Him. He told them this because He was not resisting the arrest and that anyone that used His sword would die. He didn't want violence at this particular time and place because if you read the verses after this, it has Him telling the people that are arresting Him that He could call His angels down to save Him if he wanted. I think the death penalty is warranted in many places in the bible. There are hangings and stonings in the bible, but Jesus also said, cast the first stone if you are not also guilty. He is not referring to a man that killed thousands of people though. God hates evil and all forms and it should not go unpunished or be allowed to go on.

This is what i think your looking for in scripture REV
10He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
To answer your other question...
Well it depends on what God are you talking about. Or what time period for example. The old testament God commanded people to be put to death for braking some laws. But in the new testament it is not so. So we go by the law of the land because God seems to have left it up to us at this stage Even the Jews are not aloud to keep the Torah laws in their own Sovereign land, Because we civilized people of the planet earth feel that alot of the laws written were made for that primitive time not for now a days. Hope it answers your question.
Happy New Year

If you kill someone but never repent , you already received the death penalty. Eternal separation from God and His Kingdom. Forever regretting but with no recourse to redeem yourself. Worst then
physical death because you can't even commit suicide.

What Does God say about the death penalty?
THOU SHALL NOT MURDER!

Killing a creep is NOT MURDER.

Read Leviticus!

I must admit that the "Death Penalty" sure cuts down on the number of repeat offenders.

we all are granted free will on earth, so with that said.
god awaits all who are punished, whether justified or not.
god passes judgement in the end.
how you live your life is how you will be judged.
if you are a criminal and are caught you get whats coming to you.
whether by man and then by God's wrath or his mercy.
if you cant do the time, dont do the crime.
