Indian food is very healthy and all that you need to do is check the main ingredients and add up what is in the recipes. Stay away from Naan as it is very high in not only fat but carbs as well. The more spicey dishes increase the metabolism and help to burn calories. Good luck.

Being Indian myself it is hard to tell, because depending on how your mum makes the food does she use oil or ghee??????? that's where the real calories add up because the main part of our diet includes alot of vegetables that's good but its the butter/oil/ghee which makes the dish around 500kcals or more, watch your mum cooking next time and start looking at the packets and start adding up to get a estimate.

Indian food can be very unhealthy with statistics pointing to Indian people suffering from heart attacks and blocked arteries more than any other people especially in UK. Good luck.xxxxx

DUHH!!
The calories are in the contents - doesn't matter if it's "Indian", "Thai", "Chinese" or whatever.

Look up the foods involved, then things like 'ghee' or 'sunflower oil' for the cooking, then work it out.

But, cheer up - except for using 'ghee' - most Indian sub-continent, including Pakistan and Sri Lanka, foods are not fattening, if eaten in moderation.
[But, that goes for any 'cuisine', I suppose.]
