A year ago, I left home to live with my sister and her two dogs so i could go to college. While I was away, he died. He was my best friend for many years since I was a young girl. Now when I see my sister's two dogs (they are the same breed but different color), I feel resentment and disappointment. I often want to trade them in for my dog that passed away. I know it's not right and it's not their fault, but I can't help but feel so sad inside. Please help.

I have empathy with you as the same thing happened to me. i'd known the dog since birth. It might help if your sisters would let you get a dog same breed and color and for example if it's name was Max call the new one Maxie, Maxine, or Max JR. Also it may help to talk to your sisters maybe they could share their dogs with you. I know it maybe hard but try to look at pictures and remember your old dog it will make him seem closer to you. Theres nothing else to do except learn whats bothering you figure out how to fix it and let your heart heal. Laughing helps too. Laugh at the funny things your dog used to do. Remember afterall laughter is the BEST medicine.

Losing a pet is hard,I know and it hurt big time. So you are away at college good but no dog, the two do not mix, if you really need a pet get a fish (one) or a plant you do have a life that will constantly change. Go and volunteer at a shelter now that's a gift for you and the dogs and cats. It's better to give something back when you can, these places need alot of help!!

I understand it can hurt. I had 2 dogs, same breed, different colors, and the one I favored died from cancer. I was very upset from the loss, but I tried to enjoy time w/ my other dog so I could deal w/ the loss and try to accept it. Just remember that your dog had a full life and it was just his time, and you still may feel resentment towards the other dogs, but it will pass. Right now, it sounds like you have accepted the loss, and at this point, only time will help. Hope everything goes ok! :)

Wow, never heard of that one. But, I suppose you have to look at the situation and be honest with yourself. You can never replace your dead dog, but if you want a dog to call your own, you could probably get another.

well maybe you just need to stop thinking that those dogs are the problem maybe it is the fact that you miss your dog and it is not that they have a problem but you do.not to sound mean but i dunno how to word this.try not to take it out on anyone or any thing and just face th fact that you miss him?
