I was in a play with this guy over the holidays. I was immediately attracted to him, but I thought he was way too old for me. Turns out we're the same age- just he looks and acts very mature. I am also quite mature. We go to different schools. I guess you could call us 'friends.' I just don't know how to proceed toward anything further. I only talk to him through email. Any ways or ideas to help make this go forward? Or should I consider myself 'out of his league' and move on? I can give more details of our personalities or interactions if it would help.

Okay... I don't think my hair color matters.

I sent him an email a few hours ago, asking if he wanted to hang out downtown and grab coffee. Maybe that will work. I'm just really shy... around guys, that is.

Also, I doubt that the fact that we both are deeply involved with community theater means anything negative.

Well, he is sixteen. I'm fifteen. He's very mature, as in the majority of his friends are in college. We have a bunch in common including Broadway and an obsession with living in New York City. We've seen most of the same plays- he asked me about my opinion before seeing another play. I am more outgoing around people I don't know than he is, but we both interact well with adults.

I guess you could say we are mature high school kids. I am more outgoing and stubborn, and he is more shy and introverted.

But something tells me it could work quite well.

Start by just being friends. Friendship is the basis of any good relationship. I actually just went through a similar situation (same ages and all! Only I'm the older one). I met a guy through a production of "Seussical the Musical" we were both in. I was always attracted to him, so we were just friends for about a month and 1/2 before we decided to start dating. I'd suggest starting out by doing something you both like.......perhaps seeing a play or musical at a local school or community theatre? That kind of atmosphere is very un-awkward.

Email is a good way to interact, but IM is a BETTER way. Here is where you must trust your instincts. Do you think you have chance? Perhaps you're just doubting yourself (and you're not alone). Stop all the doubting and try to see how it works. Flirt with him. It is possible through Email or IM. Once you get to know him really well, or you get the guts, ask him to go to the movies but maybe just as friends to be safe. You could go with a bunch of the people from the play if you want to. Use your instincts to see whether you stand a chance. Good luck!

First of all I would never consider anyone out of your league. But since you have been emailing, you are already on good terms with him so that is good. I would keep emailing and call to talk just say that you want to get to know him or that your email is not working, lol, but I would call and suggest a friendly movie or date. something to get you together to hang out and talk to see if you even have any chemistry and like each other or not. But just getting to know each other anything like that. you mentioned plays use stuff you have in common. I hope this works out for ya'll and I wish you the best of luck hopefully i shed some light on your question

Ask him to go do something with a SPECIFIC date and time...ideas are:
1) meet you at a local coffee shop Friday at 7 PM
2) join you and a few friends to the movies next Tuesday
3) go with just you to the movies next Friday
4) go with you to a sporting event this Friday

His response will give you an idea as to how he sees you. If he emails back "NO thanks" and doesn't say much else he's prob not that into you. But if he says "no, I'm sorry I can't I have to babysit my younger brother, how about some other time" then he's interested.

Next time to respond him through email, just ask him if he wants to do something. If he's talking about music...find a concert and invite him. Or ask him to go shopping...either for something he likes or tell him you need some help picking something out. You should know if he's interested quickly enough
