Banks by federal law can only be closed for 3 days at a time unless under emergency circumstances, so since they are closed on the 1st (which they normally take a 3 day weekend) they will be open on Jan. 2.

You will need to check with your individual bank. It's a National Day of Mourning instead of a true Federal Holiday. I know the financial institution I work for will be open for service!

Mine is open. All federal offices are closed. Most state offices are open. Most schools are open :(
Breezy got it right for banks. They have to get permission from the Federal Reserve if they want to be closed a 4th day in a row.
