Is there a general guideline for the distance that furniture should be placed away from the fireplace (for safety reasons)?

I would recommend any furniture with fabric on it be at least 3 to 4 feet away from the fire. Also make sure you have a screen in front of the fire place to reduce any sparks that may fly out.

If your fireplace has a great and you keep the fire relatively small I would say probably around 7 feet or so. Watch out though if the furniture starts to get warm, keep an eye on things for awhile.

i have one and for 4 years i had a love seat 2 feet away from it so i would say about 3 feet forget daves answer
