I`m fourteen and I live about an hour and a half away from New York City. I really want to live in the city A LOT; I love the city, and not just Manhattan, I`d live in other places. Not anywhere, but almost anywhere in new York City. My dad doesn`t really like the city though. He`d be closer to his work and everything, but he is very anti-New York. Any ideas on how I could change his mind? He grew up in the Bronx, but he left around age eight.

adamsjrcn: I can`t say that I know much about prices for apartments or anything, but I used to live there. I don`t have fantasies, I just love it.

Apply for some colleges in NYC. That will give you something to look forward to. Your dad is probably just trying to do what's best for his family. He probably feels it's a better environment for your family where you live now. Also, living in NYC is VERY expensive.

Give it up for now. Your father knows the reality of NYC while you have some wistful fantasy about the place. You are star-struck by all the bright lights, and he is fully aware of the costs - financial, emotional, etc.

If you want to live there, get as much education as possible and then get a job that requires that makes it financially possible to live there.
