But then worship the "god" and "goddess" of nature? If these "gods" exist, then they do evil as well.

The gods and goddesses of nature do not do evil.

The Christian god commanded his people to rape, murder, and pillage various groups of people. No nature deity of Wicca would condone that.

The belief is that nature in and of itself is indifferent, neither Good nor Evil.

Earthquakes do not happen because Nature is trying to kill people, but because it is part of the natural order of things.

Also, their belief that the Christian concept of God does evil works is not contradictory. They are saying the God espoused in the Bible commits acts they concider evil and find that God implausable, thusly do not believe that it exists and that the Bible is a falsehood.

That is not the same as the notion that that God did bad things but doesn't exist. It is silly for people to apply that notion to Wiccans and is a result of their desire NOT to understand, but to blanket condemnation.

Some people believe Wiccans are evil. Some people believe Christians are evil. Some people believe Muslims are evil.

They are fine to believe this, but as a result they will never know what they are talking about in that respect.

It is wrong to make assumptions about people based on your opinion of their God, no matter what that God is. It is wrong when people do it to Christians, however even within just this post there are christians doing the exact same thing.

I try not to make these sort of assumptions about anyone, which leaves me free to understand anyone's beliefs. Though I admit, sometimes understanding some people's beliefs defys my ability to comprehend. ^_^

The "God" Jehovah is the one that the christians worship. Wiccans worship gods, and goddesses, of the Roman, Greek, Norse, Celtic, and Native American cultures and are forbidden to do any evil or they would lose favor of the gods they worship; which means it is bad karma.

As why "God" is evil; I presume that He isn't evil, but it is that the ones who worship Him are mostly evil and do evil things in His name.

Um...

I have never heard a Wiccan say that they "didn't believe in God because He does evil works" - I'm not sure who you've been talking to.

Wiccans recognize the masculine and feminine aspects of the Divine as God and Goddess (though we may call them by any number of names). There are God/desses who are considered "darker" than others, either because they work with the pathways of death and the afterlife, or because they deal with the more negative things that are a part of life.

Does that make them "evil"? IMHO no - it is a question of balance. Evil, to me, requires malicious intent, and I don't believe that's the case here.

I have to wonder if the Wiccans you are talking to are wannabes who are calling themselves Wiccan out of rebellion, and are more interested in expressing their anger at Christianity than in understanding the spirituality of Wicca.

Its not what any god does, but what men and women do in the name of god. I am sorry to say that more people have died in the name of Jesus Christ than any other name on earth, God and Allah follow closely behind, only the Buddha has been spared so far, but there are now fundamental Buddhists - so its only a matter of time before his mane is used to justify some madness too.

They are not true wiccans. Wicca teaches that all religions are true for the beleive. this is not a contradiction because we beleive that religion is merely humandkind's attempt to explain that which cannot be explained. We do not knock the gods of other religions.

Wicca allows one to be a member of many paths and traditions withojut contradicting either. The only exception is being Wiccan and christian or muslim, not because it is against wiccan teachings, but because it is against christian and Muslim teachings.

Some claim to be Christian Wiccan, and I contend that is not possible. I say that not because of my Wiccan teachings, but from my knowledge of the bible studying it over 25 years.

Most practicers of Wicca believe in the Goddess entity and I wouldn't understand how they could not also respect others spiritual beings. Maybe the Wiccans you have been talking to are actually unaware of what wicca really is and are some of those wannabees that think it is cool to worship outside of the traditional christian ways. Wiccans believe in doing no harm and what is done comes back to you three times.

not all wiccans feel that way. being a newbie to it (maiden) i can only say what i know. everything i've read states that those of us wiccans who believe in jesus christ and god are just believers who have accepted the Holy Trinity and pursue our faith most sincerely. look at it just like this: Catholic priests are assumed to be rapists and pedophiles, just because a few priests (few being a relative term) have been exposed as these perverts. my priest never accosted anyone, my nuns never really did torture me, but i can say this: the mainstream belief of Catholicism back in my day was to welcome pain, experience shame, banish pride and throw yourself at the mercy of God for the forgiveness of sins committed and strength NOT to commit them again. that's not a truly great analogy for you, but it's something. i pose the question though, to those who believe Catholics are all brainwashed, if we're all so brainwashed, and you're telling me you were once Catholic, how come you're not Catholic anymore? if you were brainwashed, how come you're not still a practicing Catholic? brainwashed? i think not. nor is it the case for wiccans. keep exploring it dear. there is more here than what meets the eye. shrug off those that scoff and ridicule, and if you believe in God, then continue. don't listen to those that say God is evil. you know in your heart that's not right. have a wonderful and prosperous new year!!! blessed be.

I don't think that's what they were saying. I think they were merely stating an unbelief in(as in " a personal non-commitment to") Christianity, and affirming an irrefutable fact that the bible clearly states that Jehovah, God of Jews AND Christians has done evil things to people, such as genocide, etc. AND ordered evil things done to people, such as stoning women for infidelity, genocide of Canaanites, Hittites, etc. stoning gays, oppression of women in general and countless murders. It's in the bible, in black and white, pointing out what a book SAYS doesn't constitute a commitment to it.

I am atheist but I will tell you the bible states that God created evil. Do a Google search on this statement and you will see where it can be found in the bible. This is not disputeable as to what it says. Isa. 45:5-7

Yes you have a point. I am an ex Wiccan. I had to leave because I found most of them to be rebel Christians getting back at their parents by calling themselves a witch. I did meet a few that were serious about the craft and I still admire them. There is no foundation to build on so it can become a cafeteria style religion. I have known covens that had some structure, but that's about it. It seems that all gods and goddesses are acceptable except the GOD of Abraham and Jesus the Christ.
