I hear it all the time, only the poor and uneducated join the military. John Kerry even alluded to this in his widely contriversial statement. The fact is that the US military is the most highly trained and compitent military in all the world. Individuals who enlist in the Military take away a sense of respect and honor that is unparrelleled to any other experience life offers. More than half of the United States 43 presdents served proudly in the US military, were they ignorant? The sense that only the poor and uneducated join the military because they have nothing else is an unfounded sentiment driven by the democratic party to bolster support from their base, the poor and uneducated. What do you think about this issue?

I don't believe that to be so. Some of the things that are written here and are obviously written by military persons are the most intelligent, well written answers I see.

I think John Kerry is an idiot who has his head so far up his butt..........

I just got out of the Army I served for 3 years with the 1st Battlion 503rd Infantry Regiment Air Assult and it was some of the hardest and best times of my life. I wasnt rich when I joined the military it's just something that I had to do or I would feel naked as a American 1 in South Korea getting drunk, running and being cold 1 in Ramadi,Iraq had some fun there and spent the rest of my time in Fort Carson, Colorado witch really sucked unless you like to Snow Board. Over all I think most people join for the experence of a life time just what the recruiter says. Met some of the greatest friends I'll ever have people I can really trust. Been through some really crazy nights out in the town and at club with 20 of your buddies noone can say nothing to you because your rolling so deep. Certain part of the States like Chicago I've been there twice for about 8 hours each time just a lay over type deal and got really drunk for free at a bar from the waiters and the police kicked some people out of a taxi going to a blues festival out so we can goto the nearest strip club that was some real American spirt I didnt expect from the police can't say I hate all cops anymore because I learned some have hearts that day. If your thinking about joinging the military join the freaking military and get a real job like Infantry or a Medic or something don't do no crap like Finace or something or your basicly a civlian wearing a uniform.

Firstly your not the most highly trained army that goes to Britain. That aside i strongly disagree with people saying that only the poor and uneducated join the army in america and as im british, britain. Over hear there are a lot of people who would be considered poor and uneducated to some extent that join but there are plenty of middle class and even high class ( members of the royal family serve in the army, although this is as officers ) who serve in the british army. I would think the situation is similar in the US. I for one am in the process of joining the army due to struggling to find a career path and rather than work in dead end jobs till i figure out what i want to do or spunge off the state i would rather join the army and make something of myself. I am neither uneducated nor poor and have in the past trained to be an accountant until i found it a hugely boring experience. To anyone who thinks this of there army should remember that one day that poor uneducated man or woman may be the reason your still around to make that comment.

It's a long time image of a soldier or any military personnel. Usually because of a draft or etc. But in fact a good number in the military are highly educated and trained.
It was made from the general public image of the military that only the uneducated and poor join the military because they can't do anything else or have nothing to lose. Through the general public emotion related to the military they see as a death wish.
The image is social and psychological, has nothing to with anything political.
Though I have seen a lot of conservative blaming the smallest things in hypothetical questions on the liberals in Yahoo! Answers.

Its funny, i hear this all the time. I enlisted in the army having a masters degree, along with a bachelors degree, and i stayed enlisted. Maybe i should have gone officer, but i felt that the enlisted route was for me. When people think that people in the military are uneducated, it really annoys me, we train very hard and all soldiers are tasked with basic and advanced skills that take a long time to master. We work hard and are always increasing our knowledge base, people just see the negative stereotypes of soldiers fighting and cursing, its a shame.

Thats what the Democrats want you to think. Liberals today are mean spirited people and out to exploit the poor and minorities.

The military provides free training for life and career choices, I am a civilian contractor in Iraq and these men and women over here are treated and taken care of very well. Great food, fully stocked gyms, internet connections, plasma TV's in recreation area's, libraries. The military offers online education, free tuition, classes on base. All they ask is you serve your country for a length of time. I mean why not. Employers love people who have served in the military, already have the training and education, being in shape saves on health care and discipline.

Honestly, I can't understand why more young people don't take advantage of joining the military. Hmmm, flipping burgers or pumping gas or working at walmart? What would I rather do? Just because there are hippies and flower children out there who just dont know any better or have nothing better to do with their time.

I joined in 1993 and I am so glad that I did. I had a half scholarship to Northeastern University and I joined the military instead. So glad that I did !

One of the incentives to join the military is that you can get a "free" education. Many young people join to get this benefit that they couldn't otherwise afford. Others join because they can't get a decent job & still others because of a sense of patriotism. Being poor & uneducated is not the same as being ignorant or stupid. It's just an unfortunate financial situation.

grimy Skunk is unquestionably top; in spite of the undeniable fact that, you're able to understand that the distinctive question you asked is relative and slightly universal. at present the U.S. Is the only united states which could execute it is will at everywhere, each time, and for in spite of the undeniable fact that long it needs, on the face of the planet. we are the single united states which could do any of this unilaterally - which ability we don't choose any allies helping us. It additionally relies upon upon what the federal government - and united states - are prepared to settle for. For representation, we would desire to reinstate the draft and shop a militia of tens of millions with contemporary technological understand-how if the rustic grew to become into as quickly as prepared to pay for it - whilst we may well be technologically weaker if we merely maintained contemporary levels, we might nevertheless be more desirable to each physique else for an extremely long term. yet that scenario is in uncomplicated terms no useful. even nonetheless we get "weaker", we are nevertheless more desirable to each physique else on the earth via utilising a enormous order of fee. we might have have been given to get weaker by way of 25 or extra % to even critically have a degradation in skill - and we would whether be the single actual super capability. While being from a poor family, I did volunteer to join, mainly because the nepotism in my town was so thick, that my not having family there in any sort of position assured I would be pumping gas for the rest of my life. Some bands allude to the poor being made to fight the wars of the wealthy... Well, it's a good paycheck, and it teaches you something most songwriters will never learn. My viewpoint.

It takes a truly stupid person to believe that about our military. The average education & IQ is higher than the USA at large, so that must make them really dumb. My son graduated magna *** laude from an excellent university & his best friend is a Harvard graduate attorney - they are both officers in the US Army now & both Rangers. They joined because they love their country not because they had no other choices. My son will be in graduate school as soon as his deployment is over - compliments of the Army. I have met & takled with many Officers & Enlisted men & they are smart, well educated people who we owe our freedom to.

The ignorant that claim to hold themselves in the higher eruditic echelons of society have firmly lodged their heads square up each others' @$$es. They forget that it is that very group they insult which keeps them safe and secure at night.

I am proud to have served my country. Furthermore, I served in the nuclear section of the U.S. Navy. I am pretty d@mned certain that those brain dead liberals and anti-military idiots wouldn't know what to do with a nuclear rector except try to think what happened in a movie they saw a few years ago. The level of training that the military offers in many fields is so strong and extremely thorough that you can actually get an AA, AS, or technical certificate for civilian qualifications.

Those who served come out with a stronger sense of self and a stronger respect for others. They understand what it takes to move yourself further in life. They have sacrificed their time, money, and even their health to make themselves better. it would be interesting to see how those who openly and mindlessly bash our military would fare when they're confronted with a simple problem or threat. Something tells me they would run to their mommas and cry like the little b!tche$ that they are.
