I have an 8 month old silky terrier that seems to have remained black and tan. I know that some silkies stay black, but his coat is a lot thicker and coarser than my other silver silky. Is this a trait from keeping his black fur?

Are you sure it is a pure bred? If it is it could just be a breed "fault" which is only really a negative if you are trying to sell him out for stud purposes or show him, or it could be that he still hasn't got his blue coat yet (it's possible). Personally, I think if it is a fault, it adds character. My whippet pitbull x has blue eyes which is seen as a fault, but everyone who sees them loves her.

It just make him unique!

WHY??
Because it's just "pet-stuff".

Staying black & tan instead of "BLUING-OUT" is a MAJOR/DISQUALIFYING ***FAULT***!

BLUE not "silver"!

Didn't you READ the BREED STANDARD???
