I also will plan to buy one.. BUT.. Heed advice from ALL experts.... if it comes out on January l(just an example), wait until June or July to actually buy one.. All experts tell me that there are certain things that have to bes worked out of a new system and 6-7 months is ample time to do just that.

Have you checked out the Microsoft web site and tried the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor? My gut feeling is to wait (although I am impatient to get the newest OS out there). I have discovered on my 3-year old desktop that I will probably keep WinXP. But, my laptop is only 1 year old and seems to be ready. I am going to wait awhile and see what others experience. If I get Vista, I want all the bells and whistles. How about you?

Windows XP works just fine for me. I've been playing with the the beta of Vista on my spare PC and it's not worth the expense of getting it right out the starting gate.

It's not worth it unless you buy a new computer and it comes with it free. Vista has a lot of eye candy and may be more secure depending on how reckless you tend to be with your computer, but the cons outweigh the pros.
Pros:
+Shiny
+Warns you before you do something stupid
+DirectX 10 (if you're a gamer)
Cons:
-Gives you annoying pop up confirmation screens when you run any new program
-High sys reqs (major resource hog)
-Invasive DRM
-Your pre-DX10 games will run 10-15% slower (admitted by Microsoft)
-Expensive

I would not get it for a year or two. The reason Im saying this is because, yes, the bugs. But also compatibility sense. Almost every program that worked in xp doesnt work on vista. I would give it time for the programs to catch up with vista.

I have mixed opinions about it.
I don't believe its any safer than XP like they claim it is: several security holes have already been found.
It's also very taxing on your system, which is why they have high system specs required.
On the other hand, it is supposed to offer several new features, and graphically its supposed to be highly impressive.
I think I would just wait and see how it turns out before making a definate decision: don't jump out and go upgrade the second its available.

stick with xp because as an IT professional I beta tested windows vista beta and business edition.... I say wait at least 8 months before purchasing it because still alot of bugs, holes, and some software/hardware not compatiable with it.

Windows Vista wil be released in America in January this year. If not, it should come out soon later. After trying several demos, windows vista only appears to have changed through it graphics and menus.
