He doesn't have to have a purpose, he just is and he certainly doesn't have to have man to have a purpose. I do sometimes wonder what his purpose was in creating man and what I observe of man, but then my intellect and what I wonder is not what is important.

You think maybe you have it backwards?
God is the Creator. He does not need man, and his purpose is not in man - think much, much bigger.
We however, do need him. He is the source of all things, and provides all for us.
