no way. a mechanically good car will sell way faster even if the body isn't that good especially the classic cars. you can get a nice paint job cheap. parts to make a car run could cost a small fortune

I have owned 30 different cars in my life.
You should judge a car by the BODY WORK. Do you want to keep this car for a long long time??? Anything mechanical can be repaired for an amount of money. But the body work can be the most expensive thing of all.
Is the COOL PAINT JOB hiding other problems?
Look down the side of the car by standing at the corner of the car. Smooth body or wavy areas?
Pass a little magnet over the car. Are there places where the magnet doesn't stick???? PLASTIC FILLER!!!
Look at the spaces between doors and fenders. Equal on both sides? Is the hood and trunk straight? Equal spaces left and right?
COOL PAINT JOB? = Body wreck problems being hidden.

it all depends, a pant job means nothing. my truck is rusting and has minor paint fade adn scratches adn dents, but the truck runs like brand new, its an 1989 Ranger. I've seen cars that look like they are brand new when the are 10-20 years old, but run like a sack of ****. Don't buy a car on looks, buy it on mechanical preformance. but if the car was well taken care of and runs like new and it has a new/cool paint job, then its just a bonus.

I like old cars. I had a 1978 Camaro and I still have my 1979 Mustang. They are easier to work on and parts are found very easy. I don't really care about the paint as long as there's no rust.

Only if it's internal structures are fully operational. If it breaks down, the money spent fixing all the problems would be worth more than a paint job. Put it this way, if a person looks smokin' hot, would you take them to bed and only to find out that he/she has STDs later?

it may give it a good look but the majority of people who are having their cars painted arent even doing that right they throw the paint on it real quick . they are basically treatin like a woman having cosmetic surgery fixin the outside and not the inside

Who cares about the paint job since old cars break down easily. If you really want a car with a good paint job, then repaint a new car!

Unless I was a mechanic, the car would have to run and be in good working order for me to buy it.

That is just one of the factor that I will consider aside from others.
