Cutting your own hair is a bad idea. A friend of mine was told the same thing as you- that by ponytailing her hair and cutting through it, it will become layered. But she did, and the results were awkward and very uneven- and VERY unflattering for her face shape. She ended up having to go to a salon for them to correct the cut. My advice: go to a hairdresser and get them to cut it properly for you. While it may be more expensive, you're basically going to end up in one anyway. If you REALLY can't afford to go, then maybe go to one of those hairdressing schools, where they give you really cheap prices for having your hair cut by a student, or simply don't cut your hair at all until you can afford to go to a professional. Hope that helps!!! :)

Hey:) The most important tool are the scissors because not using the right one would damage your hair. use a professional scissors like Saki Katana scissors, those work extremely well, they cut really smooth! I bought them online:) Then the party stars:
1. Make a ponytail at the top of your head.he ponytail should be on the top of your scalp, not the crown of your head. This ensures the layers will be positioned correctly.
2.Slide the elastic down the length of your hair. If you want short layers, stop sliding the elastic several inches from the tip of your hair. For longer layers, slide it down until it's about one inch from the end of the ponytail.
3. Cut off the end of your hair. Use the scissors to chop off the section that's sticking out from the ponytail.
4. Remove the elastic and examine your layers. You will have even, natural-looking layers around your head. Trim individual pieces if you want to alter your look. Hope It help U:)

Cut your hair when it's dry. Use your scissors at a 45 degree angle( slanted up a bit) this way you don't get a blunt, safety scissor look. Good lighting. When your Cutting, hold the piece of hair between your index and middle finger with your palm facing your face. Just follow the bottom line of your index finger to get the straightest edge. Remember, if you want a layer say at your cheek cut it an inch bellow just in case you don't think it's strait enough. this way you can keep cutting and not have a layer at your eye! I don't suggest the pony tail thing you'll have odd layers. So just take it a small hand full at a time and you can work on symmetry easier. Have fun, but be careful.

Hugs.

That doesn't sound like a particularly great idea to me. A high ponytail won't make it longer in the front than in the back, either! If you really can't make it to a salon, ask a friend or family member to cut it for you. But really, that ponytail plan sounds like a bad, bad idea.

Its not a good idea to put it up in a high ponytail.Put it in a low loose ponytail and tell ur friend to cut as much as you need

ps..it will come out a little weird so you have to trim the ends a bit

Hope I Helped GOOD LUCK!!

your best bet is to comb or brush all of your hair to the front gather it all together and cut it straight across thats what i do and it is longer on the bottom than the top brush or comb it alittle at a time if you hair is thick just dont cut it way down to your scalp or nothing hold it up in the front not down i hope u understand this cause i was a hairdresser.......

Ok I was in cosmetology school, and I dont recommend doing that, have your friend come over, and section off your hair, and cut the layers that way. I hate to tell you, but the salon is the best way to go....sorry

I highly doubt that you would like the results of cutting your hair that way. A person really has to know what their doing to cut cut into layers.

mabey you could suggest your friend to cut it for you...becasue trust me, cutting your own hair can be a MESS. If you must insist on cutting your OWN hair i suggest at least having your friend hold mirrors and cutting part by part. Hope this helps =)
