"Belief is like a guillotine, just as heavy, just as light." (Franz Kafka) Do you have a belief that is like a guillotine? In what way?

OK I'm doing a college application and I just need some idea of what kind of belief would be like a guillotine? I just don't know what to say. I have no clue what this means. I'm not asking for a lengthy answer that I can use, I just need a short example to get me rolling. Once you guys help me understand it, I'm sure I will be able to answer it myself.

Our perceptions (interpretations) of what we think is right/wrong is based solely on our individual beliefs, and in sticking to our beliefs it can feel like a burden if you have to go against the "norm", which can feel very heavy, but the results by sticking to your own beliefs not swayed by anyone is very freeing.(light)

For example, a belief in a religion is like a guillotine, you'd be willing to die for it but it's easy for you to hold up.

“A belief is like a guillotine, just as heavy, just as light.” ~ David Hockney

I found this quote as being attributed to D.H., My thoughts (if any) are that a belief is a strong or weak as one needs it to be. Just as sharp or just as dull... Like opinions or (o) everybody has one- it does not mean that it is "gospel".
