We just got a Samsung 61" DLP tv* and let me tell you it's AWESOME. I agree that alot of lcd tvs don't look so hot, but the DLP technology is crisp, sharp, and beautiful. I highly recommend a DLP tv.

Yes, they're absolutely, utterly AWFUL! Really saturated colour and motion artefacts all over the shop. I cannot believe that the shops have the gall to stock them - less still that ordinarily sensible individuals are parting with huge wads of cash for a telly that gives a worse picture than our 1970's Ferguson Colourstar!!
Consequently I'm going to keep my money until the technology has improved to at least CRT quality... as with all these things, demand will go up and the price will come crashing down. This time next year you'll be able to buy three televisions for the price you'd pay for one now, and the picture will be better on all of them!

I just got a Samsung 32" LCD for the bedroom and it seems as sharp as the CRT tv it replaced. The downside is the expense of these units, but it fits a lot better than the old 26" due to the depth. The gloss black frame makes it look better even when turned off.

Fantastic Question ....
I too am looking to buy a new TV and what i've seen of the picture quality of the LCD tvs i'm not too impressed, but, i'm hoping, that the picture quality, of the LCD tvs in the shops, are due to the signal being divided between all the tvs in the shop?
I bought a LCD screen, for my kids computer... but on switching the screen on, for the very first time, i noticed a missing pixcel...
I've never had any problems, with the bog-standard tvs, that i've had for years...
It's a bit of a worry, that a broken pixcel, can ruin the enjoyment of television viewing, if such a thing, was to happen, with the LCD tv...
I would love a plasma.. but they are far too expensive.. and probably have dis-advantages to them too?

The CRT TV are yes old tec but still worth their while for picture value and price, the LCD TV are just coming in to their blossom, yes i know we have had LCD TV and screen for ages but its all down to t he input, what signal you are watching, take video and DVD and now HD-DVD. you notice that DVD is way better then the old video (VHS Tape) on the same screen, well its the same with LCD. With all the new ways of putting pictures on the TV now its hard for people to make a comparison on what's best, there is so much to choose form, if your happy with your CRT then stay with it, you can now get slimline CRT TV, they are much much neater then ever.

When viewing an analogue signal, a crt will look better as they are engineered for that type or signal.
However, on a digital signal, especially HD, the LCD will produce much better pictures.
Also, the basic setup of the TV can be altered to produce much better pictures.

I had an LCD monitor 2 months ago for my computer. No more headaches from watching the screen. Even so much i am considering letting my partner have an LCD telly in the front room.
There is a black Samsung and of all the ones we've looked at i reckon it will be the one that ends up on our wall.

You're confusing the quality of the signal with the quality of the TV. Regular, non-HD tv looks fine on CRTs, but take it to a better TV, and you start to see sampling errors and other artifacts. Trust me, they're way better than CRTs for many reasons.

I know what you mean let your eyes and senses be your judge ! .You can sell anything with the right marketing spin, why do think you never see a test card these days?.Because all the nasty little faults in the sets and the signal quality would show up.
