I believe my dog "charlie" was once a person. Has any research ever been done on this?

No, I do not believe there is such a thing as reincarnation. There has been cases that have been quoted to support reincarnation but none would stand up under scrutiny. My personal experiences let me believe that animals have souls/spirits. Charlie dog is obviously just smart enough to get anything he wants from his people using little effort. Who would want to be a person when he can get that. Exception given when his nards were whacked off.

No "real" research.

But the answers you get will depend on people's belief. If an animal has a soul, and reincarnation is real, then there is no reason why not. If fact, some religions insist that it is possible.

Other religions will insist that an animal has no soul, so, even if that religion believes in reincarnation, then it would only be a return as a person.

How others choose to interpret what a soul is will vary greatly. Some belive that there are, and have always been, a limited number of souls. Problem with that is that where does the increased population get new souls?

There is people that although they have a human body do nothing but imitate animals. Sleeping, eating, mating and defending are the activities of the animals. These same activities are also carried out by humans. But because humans have developed a more capable brain, we are supposed to go beyond these natural tendencies and inquire about higher goals in life. Therefore if one doesn't use one's brain properly, what a better suitable body for him than the body of an animal.

I don't think so because the Bible didn't say that once we die we can't be reincarnated as an animal or else Jesus Himself will be an example.

Humans reincarnate as humans, animals do not reincarnate. We come back many times to learn lessons and grow spiritually. Animals are on a different level and do not have any lessons to learn.
