Lance is not and never has been vegan. Though they might find healthy or super political reasons to be so, I have NEVER seen a vegan athlete. Vegans simply cannot eat enough of what a human body requires to endure heavy physical activity.
The lack of protein is a major factor, as well as calcium and other milk solids. Soy does not contain the proper kinds of protein and lacks many vitamins and minerals, and it also elevates estrogen levels.
Cheryl Crow, I think, was/is vegan, but I stand by my assertion that NO VEGAN WILL EVER WIN THE TOUR DE FRANCE. They simply do not have the physical prowess.

Yeah Carl Lewis was a vegan and he used steroids (OK OK he allegedly used steroids, Lance too - happy) But really there's no reason why a vegan can't be as competitve as any other human being. As long as you eat the right combination of foods and supliments you can get all your nutritional needs - it just takes a little more effort.

I'm pretty sure he never did the Tour as a vegan. Is it possible that you're thinking of Levi Leipheimer? He's a vegan, and signed to be one of the leaders of the Discovery team.

No, but many athletes are vegan. Olympic multi gold winner Carl Lewis for example.
