I just got my appendix taken out a week ago, but I have no idea how long i have to wait before i can horseback ride. i ride every weekend, and i walk, trot, canter, jump, etc., so does anybody know how long i should wait before i get on my horse again?

You should have a follow up visit to your doctor. The best thing to do is wait until then and ask the doctor. you DO NOT want to have to be restitched!

Phone your doctor, or when you go in for the post-surgery checkup...as him/her then. They'll let you know when they think it's safe enough to ride.

Appendix surgeries have come a long way in the past 30 years. Your Doctor may tell you to go ahead and ride, but don't canter, gallop, or jump until the abdomen has completely healed.

I would definitely see what your doctor says, because it can vary person to person. Given the amount of rest time your doctor says, I would not go any shorter than that, even though I know that you are anxious to get back on that horse!! Good Luck! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I would guess you should rest the horse for at lest a month.

It took 6 weeks for my face lift to heal. Probably the same for you...
