I have a flight with AA which arrives in Dallas/Ft Worth at 15:30. I then have another flight (seperate ticket) to Guatemala which leaves at 17:15, the only flight for the day.
Given that I have to pass through immigration, I'm going to miss this flight, aren't I?
So what happens? Will AA put me on the next days flight at no cost?
Thanks.

Actually, there is no such thing as transit through the US anymore, since 9/11. All travellers must pass through immigration. They even issue transit visas!
My flights are with Japan Airlines AA partner) and AA, so hopefully I can be checked through.

You do not need to go through immigration to exit the United States. Even if you are flying from another country through the US and on to Guatemala, you will only be in transit, you will not actually enter the US, so no immigration. Another important information you did not provide is: which airline are you flying to Guatemala? If it's also AA, then you should call AA and let them know so they can link the two separate tickets in their computer system. Even if it is not AA, it may be possible for you to check in all the way to Guatemala if the other airline is an AA partner. In my experience, 2 hours connection time is adequate if you don't need to take your baggage out at DFW. In any case, let both airlines know your full itinerary. Ask the agent on the phone to type in a note in your record. It will be to your advantage if something goes wrong.

Generally speaking, if you purchased the two tickets separately (and not as one itinerary through a travel agent or the like) than AA doesn't have any obligation to get you on another flight if you miss it. What you'll probably end up having to do is transfer your Guatemala ticket to another time. I would say from experience that the average cost of doing that will be between an extra $50 and a $100. So that and maybe spending a night at a hotel will probably be about the worst case scenario. I wouldn't stress out too much about it, though. Air travel is always a crap shoot these days. You might catch your flight, or the airlines might be able to help you out. As long as your paperwork is in order, you won't get stranded or anything.

You could try going standby on an earlier flight. You should be able to for free if there is space available. Because the tickets were booked separatly I don't think AA will do much, but if you book them at the same time there is minimum layover times that the airline is then responsible for. I would talk to a travel agent or someone with knowledge of that airport. Better to be proactive then getting stuck at the airport.

If you booked your reservation on separate itineraries then this will cost you. The air line is not responsible if you, yourself, booked two tickets without enough connection time. There is a minimum connection time at all airports. The connection time for domestice flights are usually between 30mins-1hr depending on the airport and for international flights, 1hr-1 1/2hrs (also depending on the airport). The time of year is also taken into consideration.

You can have your bags checked through to your next destination if your air line has a baggage aggreement with the other air line you are booked with.

You may need to call your air line and advise them of your mistake and see what the requirement is and also to see if they can do something for you, like, changing your ticket minus the reissue fee or just letting you know how much it will cost to change your ticket to a later/next day flight. Just be prepared!

if the airline is at fault they will do there best to get you on the next flight out to your destination
if you have to spend the night they will put you in a good hotel pay for your transport to and fro ,and also for your meals

if you are flying from an American city to fort worth you do not have to go through immigration you simply show your passport and visa at check in
you can have it to where your bags are checked in directly from the first flight( AA )to the next to save you time

its unlikely that you will miss this flight
however your booking agent will be to blame if you do (unless its of your own doing or the fault of the airline due to delay or something) they'll have to take care of you

good luck

. If the airline delayed your flight and you ignored it because of the fact of them they are going to e book you on the subsequent flight to hong kong. If the subsequent flight obtainable isn't for an afternoon or so as that they supply you nutrients vouchers and a lodge. in spite of the undeniable fact that, permit's say your flight lands in Singapore at 12:00 and the flight leaving for Hong Kong leaves at eleven:00 they do no longer look to be going that might actually assist you out. while reserving a connecting flight the airline recommends leaving a minimum of 40 5 minutes in between the advent of the 1st flight and the departure of the 2d. in spite of the undeniable fact that i want to propose leaving a minimum of an Hour in between the flights because of the fact while you will make it on the flight, your bags will possibly no longer. desire this helped!

DFW is a huge airport. You will be tight in making your connection. If you miss your connection they should put you on the next flight, unless you did something to delay yourself (e.g. sit in the bar too long.)
