That happens to me once or twice a year. Don't lay in bed. If you're not sleepy, get up. What I do is go into the other room, sit in the chair and read. Find something boring to read like an economics book. Within an hour you should feel sleepy again and I bet when you go back to bed you will sleep.

Read a book if that's going to help you fall asleep. Some people listen to classical music or even watch the television to fall asleep. Some people take prescribed sleeping medicine to fall asleep (see a doctor about this). The last one is guaranteed to work (the medicine) but it's not good for you in the long run.
Avoid coffee at least 6 hours before sleeping, and exercise on a regular basis (3 to 4 days a week). It'll help with sleeping in the long run.

Yes I hate it, I know exactly what you're talking about. I have some sort of sleep disorder. If I don't take my sleep meds at night I will not sleep & I will have the worst migraines. I had surgery a couple weeks ago & my doc wouldn't let me take my sleep meds for fear of airway obstruction and I literally didn't sleep for a whole week. It was truly a nightmare. So I guess I'm chemically dependant on sleep medication but hell at least I can sleep now and I'm not hung over in the morning. So I don't see the harm in it. Happy New Year.

What I try doing is 30 minutes or so before I go to bed I make sure I have no distractions no tv,music ,books or internet ..Just lay there in bed ..usually it works ..Unlike tonite could'nt get the the tune from Bob The Builder out of my head ...Hence why I'm on YA...

Yep, had the same problem. I'm bipolar and it's common among people who are bipolar as well as others. I am being treated now so my mind doesn't race as much as it use to. I also take Seroquel 20 minutes before bed time. It's a mood stabilizer that also makes you drowsy and helps you sleep well all night.
Sincerely,
Terry

yep, been there done that.... happy chatting. The people on here have different rotas, so they always seem to natter to the same folk, thus they get the same old Q&A. By being on at an unsociable time, you get to see folk from differnet time zones too. cool. Enjoy it.
I just cant sleep cos my hearts a flutter thinking about my Nini, who, bless her, is blissfully unaware in dreamland. Tired yet?

It happens to me too, and sometimes I get up, read a book or watch tv. Sometimes I get sleepy and doze off watching tv but when I go to bed I'm wide awake again.

your mistake is going onto the computer, because it reactivates your brainwaves making sleep difficult. Try reading a book, or sitting quietly in a dark room and listen to a piece of relaxing music
