I just bought the book "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. It got fantastic reviews. I have another book to finish first, but am reading it next.
Its a book addressing the massive dangers of religion and how it is destroying the world. Has anyone read it and what did you think?

I loved it. great book. There are a few things I would disagree with in it, but overall I agree wholeheartedly.
Having been a christian for 20 years and now atheist myself. I think its great he exposes what the religous people have known for years already, they do want to take over the whole world, and they fight tooth and nail for it, and they believe themselves to be the default way of life, just like atheist do (atheist are correct).
Many of us could add alot better information to the book.

I found most, if not all, of the arguments convincing.

But I would say there is some unnecessary bitterness in there, which does not help the strength of his own case.
Right or wrong, there are gentler and more sympathetic people involved in this debate than Richard Dawkins.

I think he is very largely right and that he makes his technical case well. I just wish an editor had sat on him a bit harder, while pointing out how his style was likely to come across to those not already convinced.

I’ve read some of his other books, including The Blind Watchmaker. I’m not going to buy it, but if I find it at the library I will at least skim through it. My Faith is not the slightest bit threatened by reading books such as his and from the reviews I don’t think there will be anything new for me.

It is not one of his better works (and I mean compared with The Selfish Gene or the Blind Wathcmaker which are classics), I think many on this forum could have written it. However I'm coming from the postion of knowing pretty much all of what he was going to say, for those who have never really thought through all the discussions we have here daily it should probably be compulsory reading even for those who will never agree with what he says.

I finished it last month. I read quite a few books on atheism but this is one of my favorites. He had some fresh ideas, presented them in interesting and witty ways. Also, it wasn't the least bit repetitive.

My husband has NEVER read a book on religion or atheism and he read it too. He had our high school daughter reading sections of it (the bit comparing Cargo Cults to Christianity) because he was so fired up.

I'm buying copies for friends too :)

I've read about a third of it, and it is pretty good if you don't believe in any type of deity. He makes soime very good points but is a little bit long winded.

My son has read it, and I am going to start on it this week. He says it is well written and well reasoned.
