Is Iraq more peaceful now than it was prior to the illegal invasion? I don't think so. Over 700,000 innocent Iraqis have been slaughtered since we invaded ..illegaly!, and 3,000 of our brave troops have been killed, died needlessly. and for what? What has it achieved? Mre Stability? No. It's decended into a Civil War. it's Chaos. Perhaps Iraq needed a Dictator in the first place. What is happening there now is a Travesty.Meanwhile Cheney is smirking all the way to his offshore bank to the tune of $1Billion from his Haliburton /Iraq Contract, while our brave men and women die daily.

Amy S. You talk about tyranny, but what would you call what is happening in Iraq today if it's not tyranny I do not know what is. Have we 'Won Hearts and Minds' ? Certanly not be tortuing in Abu Graib, Clusterboming countless thousands. No that aint the way to win hearts and minds. By the way I do not read the 'mainstream media' I have been to iraq I have seen it with my own eyes. I would adivse you to hoe up on what is really hapening by reading 'Fasco: The American Military Adventure'

The book is called 'Fiasco' which is what the Iraq war has descended into.

To all the angry little right wing republican red necks, calm down, curb the vitriol, the nasty name calling. Watch the old cholestrol levels. The general public are not so stupid. their fathers, sons, daughters, neighbours return and tell it like it is. We do know what is really going on.

Daveigh. Yes I do know what I am saying. You should read up on Iraq, and I do not mean the red neck right wing tablids or Fox News. I mean read 'Fiasco'. I am only saying what most of us actually feel but do not have the balls to say.

No. Iraq has always been plagued with the most sinister and ruthless kind of rulers. I do think that the state of chaos and civil warring will deteriorate in Iraq now, and that will be detrimental to the whole ME.

Yes and No. And I know that's not really an answer but hear me out. Hanging Saddam gave many Iraqis that suffered under him closure for their families and themselves. It's a small amount of solace, but sending him to any early grave will help a tiny bit. This will help the families in Iraq that felt that the Americans were doing nothing but causing trouble. This, unfortunately, is not the popular opinion in the Middle East.

However, on the other side of the fence, the Sunni Muslims (who support him) can now idolize Saddam and see him as a martyr of the cause. This new wave of violence will probably increase tenfold for a bit. I know that one of my friends over there said security has been beefed waaay up for a while now so that deaths and riots can be put at a minimum.

And although I applaud your passionate speech, I do not think you're being realistic. I've heard horror stories from more than one friend, about teenagers, 12 or 13 screaming "Allah!" and blowing themselves up right near the tank he was in. Some of them clearly aren't "innocent." As you put it. Now take a step back for a quick second. Going on 3 or 4 hours of sleep, in constant fear of attack, how do you think your performance would be? Especially if you had been deployed there twice or even three times?

And Yes, I do believe you are right about the Army keeping Iraq from civil war. The Iraqi Police were caught torturing other Iraqi citizens. You can't maintain peace unless everyone clearly wants it. If they can't be trusted to take care of themselves at this point, they need mediator. I don't think we should have been there in the first place, but it's imperative that we don't leave now. That would be tantamount to starting WWIII. (And about Cheney? There's a ring of hell with his freaking name on it.)

The Middle East (or, formerly more common, the Near East) is a region that spans southwestern Asia and northeastern Africa. It has no clear boundaries, often used as a synonym to Near East, in opposition to Far East. The term "Middle East" was popularized around 1900 in the United Kingdom. The corresponding adjective to Middle East is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner. The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, and throughout its history the Middle East has been a major centre of world affairs. The Middle East is also the historical origin of three of the world’s major monotheistic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas. Many countries located around the Persian Gulf have large quantities of crude oil.

In the 2nd War USA lost 400,000 soldiers died...and 600,000 heavely got wounded so we can free these Ungreatfull Europian Nations...In Corea we lost 200,000- USA soldiers...fighting the fight of South Coreans ...trying to give them better life...Vietnam same situation was a war...that the South VIETNAMESE they did not wanted to cary on, they where expecting the USA soldier do all the fighting for them...Now honestly where you prefer to live and survive : in North Corea, or in the so called Free United Vietnam? - Of course if you prefer these 2 countries than Usa or Canada...My friend do not let us stop you...feel free to go...One way or another we will be able to manage with out you. Sadam Houssein Brought his dearh on his own...he had 48 hrs to pick up his millions and go - with no questions asked- his old retarded brain....made him follow the wrong decissions...We lost 3,000 USA soldiers...to control land - with plenty Oil the size of Europe, I think towards the past losses from other wars Our President does and he is doing a great JOB....so instead the USA soldier get involved to fight the IRAQI causes and ajendas .... like we done in past wars we let them fight and kill each other...so in the long run as more IRAQIs get killed later for us will be a lot easier to control and govern. IRAQ...and us and the rest of the FREE world we will take all the OIL that we will need for our survival....By the way I do n't see yet Any ARAB Nation to send any Army to protect the poor IRAQIS...the only thing they send are terrorists to kill more IRAQIS...Shame on you All ARABS...but do not worry...soon or later your Dictactors will follow the luck and the end of SADDAM.....GOD bless America...always be there to help you and eliminate your DICTATORS......

Uhmmm... what about the 1.3 million of his own country's men, women and children that Saddam Hussein ordered killed? Whole villages gassed??? He didn't hang because it would benefit anybody... he hanged because of his own actions over the last 4 decades of tyrrany.

Stop believing everything you see on the mainstream media.

There is always going to be a "Evil" person out in the world and there will always be "Good" men/women to counter it. No matter how many dictators or rulers we kill, there will always be another.

No way. A lot of people in the Middle East were raised to believe that others should be hated and killed in the name of _____. (Don't want to get myself in trouble there, but I think you know who I mean). They actually believe that God wants them to kill, that they will be martyrs for killing. It's never going to end. We went over there on a false pretense, and whatever it was that Bush was having done, it didn't work. I think he was just trying to please his Daddy. It makes me sick how our soldiers are getting killed and probably tortured. I think things would change if we had a new president. If someone had the guts to start a movement on it, I would hope to be the first one to sign the petition.

I am afraid hanging Saddam will not create a more peaceful Middle East. Watch and see how even American interests will be targeted by terrorist groups.
