1) Men usually work out more. Expecially, women tend to focus on cardio and aerobic exercises that are great for the heart, but men focus on weight lifting. Weight lifting increases muscle mass (duh!), and muscle takes a lot of energy to maintain. Which means that more muscle on your body means you are burning more calories, even when you are at rest.
2) Women (in my experience at least) have been really attracted to starchy foods and grains and pastas and those types of carbs, which can be good, but can also turn bad. These carbs will add weight while meat's proteins are more difficult to digest, and actually burn calories (to some degree). But don't go Atkins - every diet should be balanced.
3) I think not enough people consider the fact that women make babies. Not to say that they can't do anything else, but the female body centers around reproduction. Reproductively speaking, it is important for a woman to maintain a healthy weight so she will be adequately prepared to support a child if she conceives. So I think it's natural for male bodies to burn weight a little more easily and female bodies to sort of stockpile weight.

Men have their fat around the middle of their bodies and women have fat on their thighs,buttocks,hips and breasts. Women have more body fat and have it in different areas because our bodies are made to have children and we literally need it in other areas. If we had it only in the middle it would be difficult to carry children.Men on the other hand traditionally the hunter gatherers need their fat stores in the middle so it is easier for them to burn off whilst hunting etc.There is a tribe in Africa where the women have exceptionally large buttocks because when times were hard they could eat less,it was considered a sign of great beauty to them as well.

We do not have better metabolisims than women, but we do have slightly different metabolisms than women, so men and women burn fat at slightly different rates. But don't forget there are trade offs. Women live longer than men and women are slightly more resistant to infectious diseases than men.

Because male and female bodies store fat differently. Females store more fat that men do. We accumulate it easier (breasts, thighs, buttocks) and quicker. I think our body is made this way because we birth and breastfeed. You can try to look up a more scientific explanation on www.howstuffworks.com
