Brands should be Sony, Fugi, Canon and Olympus. Features, maybe an image stabilizer, battery charger that comes with camera, maybe some manual controls. Maybe Megapixels between 4 and 6; possibly more zoom than the usual 3X or 4X optical. Find a camera that doesn't go through batteries quickly. Possibly check out Nov'06 Consumer Reports at your local library. AND don't short yourself on the memory of your card; buy extra memory. Hope this helps.

I personally like the Fuji Finepix cameras. I have owned 2 my first was the A345. I recently upgraded to the A600 which has 6.3 mexa pixels. I was able to sell my used A345 Fuji for $85 so its safe to say that people like these cameras. I hope this helps you.
