The Federal Firearms Act indicates anyone "convicted" of a felony is forbidden from ever owning or possessing a firearm. A conviction is "complete" when the sentence is handed down.

"Deferred Adjudication" means they technically put of "sentencing" for a period of time... if you do well, follow the rules, during that time, pay the fines and don't get into any more trouble with the law, the charges are withdrawn PRIOR to the "entry of judgment" or sentencing.

So... It doesnt look as if the Felony Firearms Act would apply to a successful Deferred Adjudication. HOWEVER, verify that with your local probation department. They'll know more about your specific case than anyone here.

Oh... and it's worth verifying and getting an answer on paper. The penalty for a violation of the FFA is 2 years in federal prison and $10,000 for EACH firearm... and it's federal court, so no plea bargaining. No stopping. No passing go.

I live in Texas and I'm a convicted felon. I don't own any guns but my wife has a few... A man has a right to protect himself and his family in a time of danger using what ever means is necessary to preserve an innocent life.

Everybody can own a gun in Texas. It would be unconstitutional to take an armed robbers gun away from him. The NRA will fight for his rights.
