It's cool if it's unique, but a lot of the time it's just something that's been done before. Or it's half a big gesture, like he tried to do something special to seem cool but was afraid to get too crazy. If you're going to do it, then do it all the way! Also, when it's a big promposal in front of a bunch of people, I imagine it would be a lot of pressure to say yes, which is unfair. Most importantly, it depends on the person your asking's personality. Would they really want to be asked the way that you're thinking of? If not, then don't do it - you're only thinking about yourself(trying to show off to other people). I personally would hate a public promposal, but a personal one away from other people might be nice. Don't go over the top if that person doesn't like over the top.

It hasn't happened to me, but I am hoping that it will. I broke up with a guy a month ago kind of for the same reason - he said he needed time to get over another relationship. That was about a month ago and all I can do is wait. And that really sucks. I am hoping by the old saying if you love someone set them free, if they return, they will be yours forever - if they don't then they were never yours in the first place. I just hope he does come back and that it doens't take as long as you are saying! Good luck!

ooh ooh.
i broke up with my boyfriend about a month and half into it. I thought I liked him alot, but I was bored, and I had too many options. We went to the same church, so I still saw him often. About 5 months later, we started hanging out again, and i realized that I really did like him, though I thought I hadn't. So we got closer, and eventually started dating, when I found out that he had been waiting for me to come back the whole like 6 months. now we have been together for another 7 months. :)
so yes, it can definitely happen. <3
edit:
and you should watch pride and prejudice. thats exactly it.

Yes it's possible... I myself did that..... this guyfriend of mine asked me out but i said "no" cause we'd gone out a while (like 2 weeks) earlier that year but we never saw each other during the day and so i didn't know him really well either but a few months later I told him I did still like him and I would go w/ him if he asked.... so yeah it does happen

Yeah, I've seen it happen before. I was kinda surprised, cause the girl had made a big deal about how she hated him, but she came to him a year later and asked him out. But apparently, he liked her too, cause he said yes!!

I've given a second chance. We dated and I left the relationship. A year later he told me he spent the entire year trying to think of a way to get me back.
We got back together. We're now married.
Second chances can be worthwhile.
